Thank you for considering Hillgoers for your guided walk up Lochnagar in the beautiful Balmoral Estate. Please get in touch with us before purchase to agree your preferred date/s.  Our local, qualified guides will be delighted to share their excellent knowledge of the area and nature within.

The Scottish Mountaineering Club guidebook for the Cairngorms, written by Adam Watson, states that Lochnagar surpasses all other mountains in the northeast of Scotland and we agree. The hills of the “White Mounth” are simply stunning. The ground is more fertile compared to the central Cairngorm plateau, so you will find more vegetation and wildlife as a result, including some very rare plants on the northern facing corrie. Mountain Hare and Ptarmigan are often seen, as are Red Deer and occasionally the magnificent Golden Eagle.

The area is also full of history, we look forward to sharing this with you on your walk. Your Mountain leader will safely show you the way and point out the interesting features as you go.

This guided walk can take us up to the Munro summit of Lochnagar, Cac Carn Beag (1155m). With the possibility to return to Loch Muick via Glas-Allt-Shiel (Queen Victoria’s Widow’s lodge). You can also choose a shorter walk in the area too.

Packed lunches are subject to availability, please contact us.
