An iconic Munro dominating the landscape north of Inverness, Ben Wyvis reaches a height of 1046m and offers superb views over the Moray Firth and to the mountains to the west.

Ben Wyvis, a designated National Nature Reserve, is home to many species of plants and birds. The mossy summit plateau provides excellent nesting for red listed dotterel, it’s home to at least 2.4% of the breeding population in Scotland.

The range encapulates three hill tops on a wide undulating ridge, all collectively known as Ben Wyvis. The highest point of which, and the actual Munro, is called Glas Leathad Mòr ("the great green slope"). Ben Wyvis translates from the Gaelic, Beinn Uais, as high or lofty mountain but could also be from - Beinn Uabhas, "mountain of terror", hopefully not while you are walking with us!

Meet Time, Location & Estimated Walk Duration

The walk departs from the designated Ben Wyvis car park at Garbat, please meet at 8:30 for a 8:45am start.

Estimated duration of 5-6 hours, 14km, 940m ascent.
