This weekend in Glencoe is for hillwalkers with a good head for heights who want to summit some Munros via scrambling and climbing. Over the two days we will aim to traverse the Aonach Eagach (Notched Ridge) and ascend Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mor (Great Herdsman of Etive). Harnesses, helmets and ropes will be used on the technical sections and if the weather is too wild to safely traverse or ascend the scrambles, other suitable routes in the area will be suggested, with the option to learn more about scrambling movement and ropework.

The Aonach Eagach is one of Scotland’s best known ridge scrambles. This bulk of mountain dominates the north side of Glencoe and rises abruptly from the sea at its western end. There is a steep ascent and descent at either end with about 4km of airy ridge walking and grade 2/3 scrambling and two Munro summits in between. The route scrambles up, down and along towers, slabs, chimneys and pinnacles with (hopefully) stunning views into Glencoe, the Mamores and Ben Nevis.

Buachaille Etive Mor is the much photographed mountain at the eastern end of Glencoe. From the road you can see the pyramid shape in all its glory and make out the various ridges and buttresses that make up the northern end of the mountain, topped by the Munro summit of Stob Dearg. Curved Ridge is a fantastic grade 3 scramble/Moderate rock climb which travels through fantastic rock scenery and tops out almost directly on the summit. Descent will either be a scrambling descent of a different ridge or a walking descent depending on time, fitness and weather conditions.

Your Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor for this event is Iain Powell, you can read more about Iain here.
